5 month anniversary

imagefive months ago today, February 6th, is when I was diagnosed with Leukemia. I remember waking up from a nap, discouraged about the fact that no one could seem to figure out what was wrong with me. I had bloodwork done at 11:00am that day. At 4, a woman from the hospital called. She told me she was a hemotologist and that my bloodwork was indicative of Leukemia. I remember it like it was yesterday. I sat at my kitchen table and wrote down what was normal for my white blood cells, neutraphils, Hemoglobin and platelets to be. Next to those numbers I wrote the numbers of what mine actually were. At the time, I didn’t know what they meant, other than I needed to go directly to the hospital. They told blake when he called them back that I would be there at least 30 days. About this time on that day,  I think I was having a pleasant procedure called Leukapheresis. They put something resembling a pointy straw in my neck and pulled ALL my blood out, scrubbed it in a machine that looked like something from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (see above photo) and then put it back in my body. A woman, who I am assuming was a nurse, brought it from St. Louis in the back of her mini van…..this apparently helped save my life.

We are still in shock from that diagnosis, and are having trouble comprehending being “done” since we still hardly know what hit us 5 months ago. This is gonna take some time. Please keep praying.
